The Lochside Follies are situated in eighty
acres of varied rugged countryside dedicated to natural regeneration.
Over the years we have developed rough footpaths that lead
you through hazel woods, ancient oak glades and on up to breathtaking
panoramic views over heather-covered hills or down to the
shore of Loch Sunart, where the ebbing tide leaves rock pools
full of interest for all. Our grounds are home to all manner
of wildlife and a huge variety of bird life. Wild flowers
and rare lichens flourish in the sheltered, unpolluted air
and the temperate climate.
Closer to home we have created games rooms and activities
for our visitors to enjoy. At the east end of our home, the
games room houses a slate bed 3/4 size snooker table (also
with pool balls) to while away an hour or two, with a removable
table tennis top for the more energetic.
Alternatively, burn off some calories in the mini gym above
the workshop and then wind down reliving a mis-spent youth
with a game of darts.
We have two lovely easy to ride road bikes for you to borrow.
Leave the car at home and discover Ardnamurchan at a slower
pace. The fascinating Natural History Centre is a pleasant
cycle ride away.
Finally, Richard has mown a rudimentary 6 hole pitch and
putt course, we have a few clubs for you to try your hand!
Lochside Follies are ideally situated for exploring the Ardnamurchan
peninsula which stretches out to become the most westerly
point on the British mainland. A visit to the lighthouse and
visitor centre (open April- October) is a must, especially
on a windy day! The beaches at Sanna, Portuairk and Ardtoe
are fascinating for all ages while the ruined Castle Tioram
and Mingary Castle viewed from a distance offer a glimpse
of the turbulent history of the area. West of us, north of
Kilchoan, is the base of a huge volcano which erupted 60 million
years ago, which makes this area a mecca for geologists and
is the reason that the scenery of the area is so unusual and
dramatic.
Relax at the slower pace of Highland life, breathe in
the fresh air of the hills about you, and unwind in accommodation
full of character .....
..... a warm welcome awaits you in the Tower and the Ruin,
and the Folly! |
